Eligibility Criteria

The Eligibility criteria for admission to the University of Ottawa vary based on the type of course. The criteria for undergraduate, postgraduate and special children courses are discussed below.

Undergraduate Course

  • To be eligible for an undergraduate course, the applicant must be at least 17 years of age and should have a high school diploma or equivalent. 
  • The applicant should have a satisfactory academic performance in their previous studies. In addition to the academic requirements, the applicant must submit transcripts of their recent studies and a personal statement.
  • Applicants may also be required to submit scores from standardized tests such as the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or the American College Testing (ACT).

Postgraduate Course

  • To be eligible for a postgraduate course, the applicant must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
  • The applicant should also have a satisfactory academic performance in their previous studies.
  • In addition to the academic requirements, the applicant must submit transcripts of their previous studies and a personal statement.
  • They may also be required to submit scores from standardized tests such as the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT).

Special Children 

  • The University of Ottawa provides special admission policies for children with special needs. 
  • These policies enable them to take part in the university’s educational programs. 
  • The applicant must be diagnosed with a disability, such as autism, or have a physical or mental limitation.
  • They must also have the capability, with or without appropriate accommodations, to participate in all aspects of the program.
  • The applicant should submit documentation of their disability, as well as evidence of their academic performance.

  • Meeting the Admission Requirements: Once you have chosen a program, the next step is to check if you meet the admission requirements for the program. Depending on the program you are applying for, you may need to submit additional documents such as transcripts, references, and test scores.
  • Submitting the Application: After you have confirmed that you meet the admission requirements, the next step is to submit the application online. You will need to provide your personal information and academic details as well as upload any documents that are required for the program.
  • Paying the Application Fee: Once you have submitted the application, you will need to pay an application fee. The fee is non-refundable and will vary depending on the program you are applying for.
  • Submitting the Supplementary Documents: The University of Ottawa may also require you to submit supplementary documents such as transcripts, reference letters, and test scores. You can submit these documents online or by mail.
  • Receiving the Decision: Once all the documents have been received and the application fee has been paid, the university will review your application and decide if you are eligible for admission. You will receive the decision via email.

Scholarships

  • Admission Scholarship: Available for Master’s and PhD students and the students must be a Canadian student, permanent resident, protected person, or member of a diplomatic corp.
  • Master’s Degree With Thesis: This scholarship is available on recommendation of the academic unit to students whose admission average is 8/10 and more. The students must have enrolled in a full-time program and its duration must be equivalent to the scholarship duration, that is, 6 consecutive terms. This is worth at least CAD 30,000.
  • Master’s Degree With Research Paper Or Research Project: This scholarship is also similar to the above one but here the scholarship duration is 3 consecutive terms only. This is worth at least CAD 15,000.
  • PhD: This is also similar to the above one. The scholarship duration for this is 12 consecutive terms. This is worth at least CAD 72,000.

Placements

University of Ottawa has a very good career center for students’ placements. Students can find job postings and volunteering offers here. Career coaching, resume writing, and mock interviews are trained to the students. Its employment rate is as high as 97% for graduates with MBA.

Accommodation & Other Facilities

The University of Ottawa offers a wide range of accommodations to suit the needs of its students. With a variety of residence halls and off-campus accommodations, students can find a place to call home while attending the University. 

The university’s on-campus residences offer unique and comfortable living spaces for students. There are six residence halls: Rideau, Montpetit, Village, 90U, 200 Lees, and International House. Rideau and Montpetit are the two main residence buildings, providing traditional double and single-room accommodations. The Village is a suite-style residence with two, three and four-bedroom units. 90U and 200 Lees are the newest residence buildings, featuring single and double occupancy rooms. International House is a residence specifically designed for international students. All residence halls feature common areas to socialize and study, as well as shared laundry facilities.

Off-campus, the University of Ottawa provides assistance in locating accommodation. The Off-Campus Housing Office helps students find housing in the surrounding area, and provides information on tenant rights and landlord responsibilities. The office also offers a roommate matching service and a rent guarantee program.
