Scholarships

Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) offers a wide range of scholarships, awards and bursaries to students. These awards are designed to recognize academic excellence, financial need, student leadership and community service. 

Currently, there are more than 500 scholarships, awards and bursaries available to students at MUN. These awards range in value from a few hundred dollars to full tuition, depending on the criteria. 

The most prestigious scholarship offered at MUN is the President’s Scholarship. This award recognizes the top students in each faculty and is valued at CAD 10,000 annually. It is renewable for up to four years and is open to both undergraduate and graduate students. 

The MUN Entrance Scholarships are awarded to incoming students based on academic performance at high school or college. These awards range in value from CAD 4,000 to CAD 15,000 and are renewable for up to four years. 

The MUN Graduate Fellowship Program provides financial support for graduate students. These awards are highly competitive and are valued at CAD 20,000 – CAD 30,000. The fellowship is awarded for one year and is renewable for up to three years. 

In addition to the President’s Scholarship and the MUN Entrance Scholarships, MUN also offers a number of other awards to students. The MUN Aboriginal Student Award is designed to recognize and encourage Aboriginal students who are pursuing an education at MUN. This award is valued at CAD 1,500 and is renewable for up to four years. 

The MUN Student Leadership Award is designed to recognize and reward students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership skills. This award is valued at CAD 1,000 and is renewable for up to four years. 

MUN also offers a number of other awards for specific groups of students, such as the MUN International Student Bursary, the MUN Women’s Studies Bursary, the MUN LGBTTQ Bursary and the MUN Access Bursary. These awards are designed to provide financial assistance to students who need it most.

Each year, more than 5,000 students receive external awards from provincial, federal and private organisations. Accommodation and other facilities

Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) is the largest university in Atlantic Canada and offers a variety of accommodation options for its students. MUN has a total of 3,500 residence spaces located on the St. John’s campus, which is the largest residential community in Atlantic Canada. These spaces are divided into three types: traditional residences, apartment-style residences, and leased residences.

The traditional residence offers double-occupancy rooms with common bathrooms, while apartment-style residence provides self-contained suites with private bathrooms. The leased residence comprises 15 off-campus apartments that are leased to MUN and provide students with a more independent living experience. It also offers Traditional, apartment-style, and leased residences, MUN also offers a variety of other accommodation options such as student dorms, university-affiliated housing, and off-campus housing. The university dorms offer single and double-occupancy rooms with shared bathrooms and kitchens. The university-affiliated housing is made up of 40 buildings that are owned and operated by the university, and offer both single and double-occupancy rooms. The off-campus housing options are available for students who wish to live independently, and include houses and apartments in the surrounding area.

The accommodation at MUN is designed to meet the needs of all students, and the university offers a variety of amenities such as wireless internet, laundry facilities, and recreation areas. The residence fees at MUN range from CAD 3,420 to CAD 7,490 per academic year, depending on the type of accommodation and the length of the stay.
