Eligibility at the Canadian College of Technology And Business

The general eligibility requirements for admission to any course at the Canadian College of Technology and Business (CCTB) include:

  • Good command of English language: Applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency through one of the following methods:
    • IELTS 5.0 or equivalent
    • TOEFL iBT 45 or higher
    • CAEL score of 35 or higher
    • PTE A score of 29 or higher
    • Other accepted English language tests or certifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent: Applicants should have a high school diploma or its equivalent from an approved government institution in their home country. Alternatively, applicants must be a minimum of 19 years of age.
  • Personal computer requirement: Students are required to have and use their own personal computer in class.
  • Additional language proficiency options: There are various alternative assessments and programs that may be accepted in place of the aforementioned language proficiency tests. These include successful completion of CCTB EAP Level 4, completion of a designated ESL school program with a level equivalent to the required tests, or completion of TLGC UPP Level 4.5 (University Pathway Program offered by The Language Gallery Canada).

  • Final Letter of Acceptance: Ensure that you have received the final letter of acceptance from CCTB. Conditional letters of acceptance are only valid until the last day of registration.
  • Evidence of Health Insurance Coverage: Domestic students should have BC MSP (British Columbia Medical Services Plan) coverage, while international students should provide proof of GuardMe coverage for the first 90 days.
  • Attendance to Orientation: It is mandatory to attend the in-person orientation session. If you are unable to attend, you must present a valid flight ticket with an arrival date after the orientation session. Additionally, completing the Online Orientation Course on CANVAS is mandatory for those unable to attend in person.
  • International Students – Valid Visa Approval/Study Permit: International students should have a valid study permit that extends beyond 90 days after the program’s start date. If the validity is fewer than 90 days, confirmation of study permit extension is required. The following documents may also be required: Port-of-Entry Letter, Letter of Introduction, and Canada Visa stamp.
  • Domestic (Canadian) Students – Proof of Canadian Citizenship/Permanent Residence/Refugee Claim Approval: Domestic students should provide one of the following documents: Canadian Birth Certificate, Canadian Passport (coloured scanned copy), Citizenship Certificate (coloured scanned copy of both sides), PR Card/Confirmation of Permanent Residence, or Refugee claim approval/Notice of decision/Refugee Protection Claimant Document.
  • StudentAid BC Appendix 3 Approval (for student loan applicants): If you are applying for a student loan, you will need to obtain approval from StudentAid BC Appendix 3.

1. Program Wise Scholarships: There are scholarships available for CCTB programs with varying amount from program to program upto CAD 11,000.

2. Canadian Hero Scholarship: This scholarship supports the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) community, providing a 10% tuition discount for eligible recipients. Open to the entire CAF community, applicants must submit a copy of their valid CF One Card with the initial application. Terms include maintaining good academic standing, full-time enrollment, and program consistency. Apply by June.

For certain CCTB programs, students can opt for co-op opportunities or scheduled breaks to work full time in the specified roles, gaining practical experience prior to graduation.

Additionally, the BC PNP Tech stream prioritizes students working in the tech sector for obtaining PR in British Columbia. This co-op experiences and the PGWP not only helps in skill development but also increases the chances of successfully getting a PR within the province.
