Fund Requirements
The USA Government has not made or issued any mandate related to the minimum funds requirements for a student visa. However, it is advisable to have an amount equivalent to your tuition fee and living expenses for a period of 12 months at least. For example, if the amount mentioned in your I-20 is USD 20,000 for the first year. Then, you need to show an amount close to USD 33,000. Your average tuition and living cost could be around $35,000- $75,000 to complete the first year of education.
Visa Application Process
To study in the U.S., first apply to an SEVP (Student and Exchange VIsitor Program) -approved school. If accepted, you’ll be registered in SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) and need to pay the SEVIS I-901 fee. The school will then issue you a Form I-20 after which you can apply for a student visa (F or M) by filling the DS- 160 Form and scheduling an interview at the Embassy or Consulate. Pay the non-refundable visa application fee of $185, if required. Attend your interview with all the required documents. If approved, the F-1 visa is issued. And finally at the port of entry, present your passport, visa, Form I-20, and financial documents to the immigration officer.
